The Ukrainian Air Force has destroyed a crucial road bridge in Russia’s Kursk region. The bridge, located over the Seim River in the Glushkovo district, was targeted on August 6 and was reported destroyed by Russian authorities. Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk shared a video on Telegram showing the bridge in ruins, confirming the attack’s success. The bridge’s destruction has severely disrupted Russian supply lines.
Oleshchuk highlighted that Ukrainian pilots have been crucial in targeting enemy strongholds, equipment, and logistics centers. Ukraine’s ground offensive in Kursk is part of its broader effort to push Russia to the negotiating table amid the ongoing conflict that began with Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022.
Russian Governor Alexey Smirnov confirmed the bridge’s destruction and reported that two volunteers were killed in the attack. Russian military bloggers noted that the bridge was first shelled with U.S.-made rockets before being hit by a glide bomb.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova condemned Ukraine’s use of Western weapons to damage civilian infrastructure, vowing that those responsible for these actions would be held accountable.
