The Minister of Sports Development, John Enoh, has apologized to Nigerians for the poor performance of the national team at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where the team failed to win any medals despite ₦12 billion in funding. In a statement on Sunday, Enoh acknowledged that the team’s performance fell short of expectations and promised to review what went wrong.
Enoh explained that when he took office in August 2023, preparations for the Olympics had barely started, and the team faced significant challenges, including time constraints and the need to focus on other major competitions like AFCON and the African Games. Despite efforts to boost the team’s performance, including training camps in Germany and Spain, the results were disappointing.
The Minister assured Nigerians that a thorough review process is underway to learn from this setback and improve future performances. He emphasized the need for better preparation and support for athletes to avoid a repeat of this outcome in future
