Soyinka: Tinubu’s Speech Fails to Address Police Brutality

Nobel laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s recent national address for failing to address the violent crackdown on #EndBadGovernance protesters by security forces. Soyinka expressed disappointment that Tinubu’s speech did not mention the use of live bullets and excessive force against peaceful demonstrators.

Soyinka highlighted that Tinubu’s omission on this crucial issue could lead to increased public resentment and unrest. He warned that ignoring the problem of police brutality may escalate the situation and undermine trust in the government.

The renowned scholar urged a shift in how security forces handle protests, suggesting they should learn from global examples of non-violent responses. Soyinka stressed the need for a transformation in protest management to prevent further escalation and ensure peaceful resolutions.
