Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has signed Portuguese star Joao Neves from Benfica for €70 million, securing him on a five-year deal through 2029. The 19-year-old midfielder, who had an impressive season with Benfica, attracted interest from top clubs, including Manchester United, but PSG completed the transfer first.
In the deal, Portuguese midfielder Renato Sanches will move to Benfica on loan with an option to buy. Neves expressed his excitement about joining PSG, stating he’s eager to contribute and win titles with the team.
Neves, a nine-cap Portugal international and one of Europe’s top young talents, is a major acquisition for PSG following Kylian Mbappe’s departure. He could make his debut in PSG’s Ligue 1 opener against Le Havre on August 16. Neves’ arrival may also affect the future of fellow midfielder Manuel Ugarte, who is rumored to be moving to Manchester United.
