On Wednesday, the Osun State Police Command presented members of an interstate armed robbery gang, originally based in Lagos but active in Osun. Among those arrested, Solomon Michael admitted to participating in three robbery operations, serving as the gang’s driver. He also revealed he had an accident returning from a robbery in Ede and had previously worked as a truck driver before a legal issue led him to Kirikiri Custodial Centre in Lagos, where he was introduced to armed robbery by Sunday Felix.
State Police/Public Relations Officer Yemisi Opalola detailed the gang’s activities, noting they had conducted several robberies in Ede before their arrest. Notably, on April 14, 2024, they kidnapped a resident in the Fiwasaye Agbale Area of Ede, stealing three laptops and demanding a ransom of 123,000 naira, which was transferred to Solomon Michael’s account. During the robbery, a gang member, Sunday Felix, shot a complainant’s brother, Ali Monday Segun, who required surgery at Obafemi Awolowo Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife.
Also presented was Tajudeen Abiola, known for defrauding Point of Sale operators with fake credit alerts. Opalola stated that all suspects will be charged in court once investigations are complete, and efforts are underway to capture additional suspects connected to these crimes. She also highlighted a reported robbery on April 7, 2024, in which four gang members stole items worth 4.9 million naira from a house in Akankan Area, Ede.
