Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has shared lessons Nigeria should take from its poor performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics. In a series of tweets, Obi acknowledged that while Nigeria failed to win any medals, the country still achieved some positive milestones. He pointed out that four Nigerians who competed for other countries succeeded because they were in environments that recognized and nurtured their talents.
Obi highlighted the accomplishments of Yemisi Ogunleye, Annette Echikunwoke, Ebelechukwu Agbapuonwu, and Rena Wakama, all of whom excelled for other nations. He emphasized that these successes should remind Nigerians of the potential within the country and the need to replace poor political leadership with a system that can harness this potential.
The Nigerian Sports Ministry, responding to the Olympics results, announced plans to begin preparations for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, aiming to restore the country’s sporting glory.
