Nigerian athlete Favour Ofili finished sixth in the women’s 200 meters final at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Tuesday. The 21-year-old clocked 22.24 seconds, competing against a strong field that included Gabrielle Thomas of the United States, who won gold with a time of 21.83 seconds.
Saint Lucia’s Julien Alfred secured silver with a time of 22.08 seconds, while USA’s Brittany Brown took bronze. Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith and Daryll Neita finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Despite her strong semi-final performance, Ofili couldn’t keep pace in the final stretch.
Ofili made history as the first Nigerian to reach the women’s 200 meters final since Mary Onyali in Atlanta 1996. With the 200 meters behind her, she now sets her sights on the women’s 4×100 relay, which begins on Thursday.
