The Health Ministry in Gaza reports that more than 40,000 Palestinians have been killed in the ongoing war with Israel. The conflict has also left 92,401 people injured and displaced over 85% of the population.
This update comes as international mediators continue efforts to broker a cease-fire in the conflict, which has been ongoing for 11 months. The war began on October 7, following a Hamas-led attack on southern Israel that killed about 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and resulted in 250 hostages being taken to Gaza.
Israel reports that 111 of the captives, including 15 women and two children under five, have not been released, with 39 of them being dead. In Gaza, overwhelmed hospitals and morgues are struggling to identify the dead amid the ongoing chaos.
