Immigration Suspends Officer for Asking Bribe at Airport

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has suspended an Assistant Superintendent of Immigration II (ASI II)Okpravero C. Ufuoma for allegedly asking a traveler for money. This action follows a video circulating on social media showing the officer soliciting a bribe.

NIS Comptroller General Kemi Nandap condemned the officer’s behavior, stating it does not align with the NIS’s professional standards. She assured that the officer will remain suspended until a full disciplinary review is completed.

Nandap emphasized the NIS’s commitment to combating corruption and improving service. She also announced the installation of electronic gates at international airports to enhance travel efficiency and prevent such incidents. The public is encouraged to report any misconduct by immigration officers.
