Woman Claims Police Shot Son; Looting Denied

The Borno State Police Command said it stopped hoodlums who took over the #endbadgovernance protest in Maiduguri from looting and damaging businesses on August 1. The protest led to four deaths and 34 injuries.

While the police praised their own efforts, Hadjia Halima Ali accused them of shooting her son, Habilu Ali, who is now recovering at the state specialist hospital. The police deny this, claiming the shootings were by Boko Haram.

Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, explained that the police prevented looting and damage to public properties, though some damage occurred. Many businesses were left unattended during the chaos, but no private stores were completely looted.

Resident Mohamed Abba thanked the police for protecting his shop from being destroyed during the protest.

Governor Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum visited the hospital where victims receive free treatment and financial aid.
