FG Issues Travel Alert for Nigerians Heading to the UK

The Federal Government has issued a travel advisory for Nigerian citizens planning to visit the United Kingdom, urging caution amid escalating violence. This warning follows the recent tragic killing of three young girls at a concert, which has triggered violent protests across the UK.

In a statement released early Monday, August 5th, and signed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Ambassador Eche Abu-Obe, the government highlighted the heightened risk of violence and disorder. The release, posted on the Ministry’s official X page, noted that recent riots, intensified by the deaths of the girls, have led to attacks on law enforcement and infrastructure damage. The protests, driven by far-right and extremist groups, have grown increasingly unruly and anti-immigration sentiment has been notably directed at Muslim immigrants and people of color.

On July 29, 2024, a knife attack during a children’s yoga and dance workshop resulted in the deaths of three children and injuries to eight others, along with two critically injured adults. The incident has spurred widespread Islamophobic protests and riots, described as the worst in 13 years, driven by Islamophobia, anti-migration sentiment, and concerns about crime and media bias.
