Kaduna Electric Cuts Govt House Over Debt

Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company has cut off power to the Kaduna State Government House and other facilities over an unpaid debt of N2.9 billion. Despite repeated attempts to resolve the issue and a disconnection notice issued on July 21, the debt remains high.

The Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service also sealed the company’s premises over a N600 million tax liability. The tax issue, dating back to 2015, has not been fully settled despite previous agreements.

Kaduna Electric highlighted that other states under its franchise, like Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara, have maintained good payment records. The company stressed that the disconnection was a last resort after all other efforts to resolve the payment issues had failed.

The public awaits further action from the Kaduna State Government to address the arrears and restore power to the affected offices.
