Protesting residents in Jos, the Plateau State capital, resumed their #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest for a second day on Friday, demanding an end to bad governance and economic hardship. The demonstration began around 7 am on August 2, 2024, marking the second day of nationwide protests.
Unlike the first day, when angry protesters gathered at various locations, Friday’s demonstrators converged at the Old Airport Junction, singing, dancing, and displaying placards decrying the plight of Nigerians. Despite the protests, most shops in the state capital opened for business, unlike the previous day. Security operatives maintained surveillance in strategic locations.
Among the protesters was former Minister of Youths and Sports, Solomon Dalung, who vowed to continue the protests until the Federal Government addresses their demands. Dalung expressed disappointment in the government’s response, stating, “We gave a 40-day notice before the protest, hoping for action. Instead, the government tried to prevent it, but Nigerians resisted and came out in large numbers.”
Dalung noted the protest’s significant impact, with over 70 percent success on the first day, and reiterated the resolve to persist until the government listens, emphasizing that “the government belongs to the people.”
