FG Limits Subsidized ₦40,000 Rice to Nigerians with NIN

The Federal Government has announced that only Nigerians with valid National Identification Numbers (NIN) will be eligible to purchase the newly subsidized rice, sold at ₦40,000 for a 50kg bag.

This initiative, aimed at reducing food prices, is part of a 30,000 metric tonne rice distribution program launched by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari. The policy limits buyers to one bag each to prevent hoarding and ensure fair distribution.

Kyari emphasized that the government is committed to curbing the rising cost of food, driven by factors like the Russia-Ukraine war, climate change, and COVID-19. The sale will be strictly monitored, with buyers required to verify their identity using NIN, phone numbers, or public service registration through the IPPIS system.

This initiative, alongside other food security efforts, is expected to reduce not only the price of rice but also other food items in Nigeria.
