The Federal High Court in Ilorin, under Justice Evelyn Anyadike, convicted five individuals including Sodiq Shehu and Ayinla Abdulwaheed Ayomide, sentencing them to various jail terms and fines. Their convictions were based on charges related to internet fraud, with sentences including options for fines and forfeiture of assets used in the crimes.
In a separate ruling, the Kwara State High Court and Federal High Court sentenced another five suspects, including Evugbemu Emoefe Emmanuel and Osi Ayomide Shitu. Emmanuel received six months imprisonment with no fine option, while other convicts faced sentences of six months to two years, with various fine options. All involved were also ordered to forfeit money and equipment used for their crimes.
The courts’ decisions underscore a crackdown on internet fraud, with the convicted individuals required to forfeit phones, laptops, and recovered funds to the Federal Government. This action reflects ongoing efforts to combat financial crimes in Nigeria.
