Five people, including Alhaji Mohammed Kabara, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, have been arrested in connection with a multi-billion naira drug scam in Kano State. Also detained is Alhaji Abdullahi Bashir, Chairman of the Association for Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) and Chairman of Tauroni Local Government Area.
Garba Kwankwaso, Managing Director of Novomed Pharmaceuticals and nephew of NNPP National Leader Rabiu Kwankwaso, is among those arrested. The suspects are accused of colluding to secure a contract with Novomed for supplying drugs to 38 local government areas, which were never delivered.
Preliminary investigations show that each of the 38 LGAs paid N9.15 million for these drugs, but none were provided. The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission confirmed that the suspects are cooperating with the ongoing investigation, and efforts are underway to uncover the full extent of the fraud
